Thanksgiving 2009 – N.Y. Trip 1

December 1, 2009

I have a lot to talk about for this break since i didnt really have time to sit and write while i was in NY.  I’ll try to keep it precise and entertaining!

The bus ride over to NY took roughly 6 hours (my ass was exhausted after the ride).  I slept for a couple of hours, chatted with Shan and Hally, and played some Taiwanese Big Two.  I have planned to stay with my Bulletproof homie, Mitchell (for picture reference, refer to my previous post, handsome boy~), so we met up at the bus stop in China Town and engaged in the typical gay handshakes along with some hugging.

Shan and Hally sleeping on the Fung Wah.

November 25, 2009

I’m going to be in New York for the next couple of days over my thanksgiving weekend.

I’m staying with my Bulletproof homie Mitchel Fung (as seen below)

This is my second time in NY and my goals for this trip are to tour the city of NY, go ape shit on black friday, chill with some friends, and hopefully get to go to popshop to dance.

I’m catching a Fung Wah bus tomorrow morning at 11 with Shally and Han (more bulletproof homies… more like homegirls), hopefully the traffic wont be too bad. I cant wait!!

Dance Life I – Popping & Foundation

November 24, 2009

My dance life started in Middleschool when i had to do one of those lipsync spirit week hip hop dance competitions and I didnt really get into legit street dance until 04 or 05.  I was inspired in 2005 to really get into popping.  All throughout High School, popping was basically the center of my universe. I devoted 90% of my time into popping and aimed to become one of the best newschool poppers. Which was mad naive because I had closed myself off from many other things i couldve done, such as school work, and i didnt really have a good balanced life.  Apart from that, i was also very closed minded about my dancing.  Taiwan’s popping style was Boogaloo based back then, and I felt like I was at an advatage, or more like I felt that i was superior to them because of my exposure to the foreign popping styles on the internet.   I looked down upon many great poppers and refused to absorb what they had to offer.

Beatronic 2006 – The first competition i ever entered. It was one of the biggest ones in Taiwan, and i entered thinking i was going to smoke some fools…

李昶輝.

November 23, 2009

“李昶輝” is my Chinese name given to me by my grandfather (R.I.P.)

In Taiwan, most new born babies have their name decided by a fortune teller because it is believed that a person’s destiny is determined by their given name. However, my name was special in a way because it was chosen by my grandfather, who was an incredible person both as a businessman and as the foundation of my immense family (maybe i’ll get into that in the future).
